VIRTUALIZATION OF PCS AND SERVERS

When it comes to virtualization of PCs, there are two types that a company can benefit from. The first one, which is more suitable for the home user, home office, and small business is called Local desktop virtualization. Local desktop virtualization implementation runs the desktop environment (Operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS, or Linux, and the desktop software that runs on them) on the client device using hardware virtualization or emulation. For example, it is possible to use local desktop virtualization to run Windows 7 or Windows 10 on top of OS X on an Intel-based Apple Mac, using hypervisor software such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop for Mac, or VMWare Fusion, all use the same x86 architecture, it is also possible to run Mac OS X operating system on top of your Windows machine.

For small businesses, this is huge because it allows them to upgrade to faster more powerful machines without the worry of keep running their old legacy software. Most small businesses do not keep up with updating their software, especially in industries such as manufacturing and retail. With virtualization you don’t get stock using a slow and outdated computer system and operating system, you can upgrade your desktop or laptop and run, and older vitalized OS environment that will let you run your legacy programs.
The second type of virtualization is server virtualization. Usually, servers have a lot of processing power that is underutilized by the operating system. When this is happening, you are wasting computer power that you may already own. If you are a small business with more than two servers, you may consider virtualizing one of the servers and just maintain one physical box, this way; the maintenance cost becomes less.
